Kiyosaki uses his childhood as the vehicle in which to deliver the lessons he has learned about business and investing. He uses examples of what his own well educated/qualified and government employed father (who he refers to as his "Poor Dad") had told him, and how he learned from examples and instruction from his best friend's dad who was wealthy, didn't have a proper education etc, however was business smart (whom he refers to as his "Rich Dad"). The catalyst it seems for this book, is what he mentions as the lack of financial education most children receive from schooling and generally from families as well. I thoroughly recommend all of his books, having come from a background where financial education wasn't even considered. If you can get your children to read them, even better.
