Marketing basics that you should be doing already or implementing immediately. 1. Never let a day pass without engaging in at least one marketing activity. a. Even simple tasks when repeated daily can lead to powerful results b. Remember to market and source leads even when you are busy, by ensuring to have work in your pipeline you can avoid the boom/bust cycles that plague many brokers. 2. Determine a percentage of gross income to spend annually on marketing. a. Budget and stick to your budget! b. Smart marketing works and will generate you more business, be careful though, if you are generating more business that you can handle you are not only wasting you advertising dollar but are also ruining your reputation or providing service. 3. Set specific marketing goals every year; review and adjust quarterly. a. Ensure your marketing goals are directed towards the goals that you want to reach. b. “More Business” is not a satisfactory goal, you need to be specific if you want to achieve quality results, make your goals SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timed) 4. Maintain a tickler file of ideas for later use. a. We all have great idea on how to market our products, every day we see creative marketing ideas, file these away for you to use later on. 5. Carry business cards with you (all day, every day). a. Self explanatory, potential customers are everywhere; they need to know how to contact you. b. If you need more business cards, come see us so that we can order come more for you. c. Set yourself a goal to hand out 10 cards every day, you’ll find yourself making excuses to talk to people so that you can distribute your cards. 6. Create a personal name tag or pin with your company name and logo on it and wear it at high visibility meetings. a. Let people know who you are and what you do. b. Be proud and confident of yourself and your brand, if you believe in yourself other will believe in you too.
