Apprenticeship Eligibility

Australian Apprenticeship Eligibility Requirements

Both New and Existing Employees

  • To become an apprentice or trainee you need to be at least 15 years of age or older.
    • In regards to age, there is no maximum working age limit for undertaking apprenticeship or traineeship, with an increasing number of mature age workers now choosing to upgrade their skills and knowledge through an apprenticeship or traineeship qualification.
  • A Mortgage related apprenticeships program does not require a minimum standard of education.
     
  • To be eligible to start an apprenticeship or traineeship and receive Australian Government funding you must either be:
    • An Australian citizen or
    • A permanent resident or
    • New Zealand passport holder who has been a resident in Australia for at least 6 months
    • Employed on either a full-time or part-time basis (not available to casual and contract employees
       
  • If you have any prior qualification at Certificate level III or higher you will be ineligible to attract Government incentives unless:
    • The qualification was completed more than 7 years ago and was NOT related to the finance industry
    • The qualification was completed more than 7 years ago was NOT undertaken as part of an apprenticeship or traineeship
  • Those who are currently studying may still be eligible to attract Government incentives so long as the apprenticeship or traineeship in not in a similar field to that which they are studying.

Existing Employee

Existing employee may be eligible to attract Australian Government Incentives if the qualification has a minimum 24 month full-time nominal duration at either Certificate Level III or IV given that the employee complies with the above guidelines.

A Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking is subsequently available for existing employees located in:

  • NSW
  • QLD

the program is not available to existing employees located in:

  • VIC
  • TAS
